How does this new mechanic of ours work? This is the place to discuss ideas revolving around the mystical golden pumpkin!

Golden Pumpkin

These are a bunch of ideas I had. Some of them work together, but most are meant to be separate from each other.

Reasons to acquire:

- Big power boost: +40% damage/spell effect, +20% move/attack speed, minor health + magic regen, +50% damage resist, immune to debuffs (too much?)
- Certain enemies can only be damaged by the wielder of the golden pumpkin
- Used to solve puzzles, i.e. need to pass it through a gateway
- Keep other players from hogging the power
- Grants heal + pushback wave when acquired

Reasons to give:

- Help your allies: passing gives the ally health and pushes enemies away
- Certain enemies will hunt you down mercilessly if you hold the pumpkin (like kamikazes, for example)
- A lot of puzzles can only be solved by passing it to others
- Detriments over time
    - Bonuses depreciate the longer you hold it
    - Boiling point - after a certain amount of time, the pumpkin starts hurting you the longer you hold it
    - Ride the pumpkin - the longer you hold the pumpkin, the greater the bonuses. But, after a certain threshold, penalties start to get stacked up as well. Your most         volatile state will also be your most powerful.
    - Increase chance for enemies to steal it from you the longer you hold it?
- Encourage teamwork
    - Passing to allies frequently means the next time you receive the pumpkin the bonuses are greater.
    - Constant movement of the pumpkin keeps stacking the bonuses. If someone holds it for too long, the combo is broken.

How to get/steal:

- First to 10 kills is rewarded the pumpkin, then scores are reset. Rinse and repeat. (Maybe the holder needs 11 if they currently hold it, 12 if they’ve held it twice in a row, etc.)
- You just ‘get’ it at the start (random player, first blood, whatever) and can steal it by attacking the current holder. There is a grace period of 5 seconds before the pumpkin can be stolen. Stealing the pumpkin flings it into the air and it lands in a random spot.
- Pumpkin changes hands automatically after a certain time/number of kills. Environmental pickups can drastically change these values for others, meaning you can quickly move the pumpkin along to get to you.
- Pumpkin seeds scattered around a level/randomly spawned/dropped by enemies. First to 10 steals it from whoever has it.

Idea for how to steal the Golden Pumpkin

Stealing the Golden Pumpkin
In order to steal the Golden Pumpkin from another player, you have to be near them. To steal, hold the Pass The Pumpkin button for one(?) second. You can only move during this time, and knockback interrupts the steal (but not damage).

Preventing your Golden Pumpkin from being stolen
Attacks from allies that inflict knockback will interrupt you from stealing the Golden Pumpkin. This allows the current pumpkin holder to stop you from stealing their Golden Pumpkin, as well as others to mess with you.
The holder of the Golden Pumpkin can also counter your steal through the Pass the Pumpkin interface. During the last moment of the steal right before it completes, the Golden Pumpkin wielder can hold the Pass the Pumpkin button and input the face-button corresponding to the player trying to steal. Instead of passing the Golden Pumpkin to them, their steal is interrupted and they are prevented from stealing again for a few seconds.


Also, we need a nickname for the player/character that is holding the Golden Pumpkin. I nominate Goldian as a potential candidate (a combination of Gold and Guardian).

Just had a thought. Since the Savior perk looks like it's being removed from the Sentinel (and other things are changing on him. We need to get him updated...), how about giving the Golden Pumpkin pass ability the option of leaping with it?

When you pass the Golden Pumpkin, if you tap the button, you pass it as normal, but if you hold the button for 1 second, the GP is passed immediately, as normal, but you will additionally leap across the map to the receiver.

I think this could both be a lot of fun, by giving players some exiting movement options, as well as allow them to potentially leap out of trouble, and if they want to leap into a fight from across the map, they have to give up the GP to do so.

Thoughts?
